Do you use a ton of great skincare products but still struggle to see results? Have you recently looked into the actual skincare habits you practice? So many times we focus too much on the products we use and not enough on the basics. Making sure you are practicing healthy skincare tips is what is going to transform your skin. In this blog post, I am going to give you 5 simple tips to implement into your routine. These changes are simple skincare habits that will transform your skin.
I’m going to preface this by saying that I in no way have perfect skin. I suffer from hormonal breakouts, congestion, and all that good stuff like the majority of us do. By no means do I have perfect skin. I have tried any and everything that has even the slightest possibility of making me look like a supermodel. However, throughout the years I have taken on habits within my skincare routine that have helped transform my skin. These habits can be adapted within any skincare routine and used with any products.
Below are my 5 tried and true skincare tips for you to follow. These habits, are exactly what you should start implementing into your beauty routine immediately.
Healthy skincare habits that your skin will love:
1. Scrub your skin with cleanser for at least 60 seconds
Scrub your skin with cleanser for at least 60 seconds: The longer you wash your face, the more dirt and makeup that is being picked up and ultimately sucked out of your pores. This one might sound like a gimmick, but it is not. Even if I haven’t worn makeup that day, I still scrub my skin for a full minute. If I have a full face of makeup on, I’ll completely take it off then go in and cleanse for 60 seconds, sometimes longer and sometimes twice. Implement this habit into your routine ASAP, you’ll start seeing a difference in just a few days, trust me.
2. Have a skincare schedule and stick to it
Have a skincare schedule and stick it it: This one is essential because it helps avoid over-exfoliating your skin and unintentionally clogging your pores. I am fully committed to my skincare schedule. Each week, I know exactly which days I am exfoliating and which days I am letting my skin breath with a more simple routine.
3. Use a clay soap bar in the shower after working out
Use a clay soap bar in the shower after getting active: When we sweat, our pores are more susceptible to getting clogged with not only our sweat by with the dirt and grime that is around us. Not to mention, we’re constantly touching our face and wiping away the sweat which only transfers more dirt. Using a clay soap bar is like a mini-detox for your skin after getting active. It strips away all that dirt without over-doing it. I say in the shower because 1) we just worked out and 2) this allows our pores to open up and the bar to deeply cleanse your skin. I suffer from dry skin, and I still swear by clay soap bars. My favourite is the Herbivore Bamboo Charcoal Detoxifying Soap Bar ($16 at Sephora).
4. Stop over loading your skin with products
Stop over-loading your skin with products: I know this one is a very unpopular opinion and 12-step skincare routines are the new craze, but trust me on this one. The more products you lay on your skin, the less effect each product has in actually doing what it’s supposed to. I typically don’t lay more than 2 products on my skin, max 3 if I’m exfoliating that day and using a serum. Like I said earlier, you should have a schedule and stick to it. If you do, you’ll still get a chance to use all the products in your collection and they’ll have much more of an impact when used on their own.
5. Wash your face as soon as you get home for the day
Wash your face as soon as you get home: Whether it’s from work, or school, or from running around all day- shower and do your entire skincare routine as soon as you get home. Not only does this help you unwind from your day and better enjoy your evening, but it also allows the products you use to soak into your skin before getting into bed and being wiped off on your sheets. Also, the longer you have a fresh and clean face, the better for your skin health.
So there you have it! All of the skincare habits that will transform your skin! This guide is exactly what I have implemented into my routine over the years that have helped improve my skin. I promise you once you adapt these into your own routine you will see a difference within just a few days.
