If you’ve ever spent the afternoon at the spa, or even had a professional massage/facial, then you know theres layers to making the experience as relaxing and rejuvenating as it should be.
I’m going to share with you all the best products to use and in the order they should be used in to perfectly mimic a day at the spa. Follow along to take your next self-care Sunday to the next level!
All the products you need for an at-home spa night
1) Set the stage with a bath tray and candles
Remember when I mentioned creating a peaceful environment? Well the first step in doing that is dimming those lights and sparking up a few candles to set a space worth relaxing in. A bath tray not only makes the space more cozy, but it allows for everything you’ll need to be at your fingertips. And let’s be honest, the less we have to move while in our zen, the better! This Amazon tray is extendible and is specifically designed to hold anything you’ll need while relaxing in your candle-lit bubble bath.
2) Treat and exfoliate your body with a dry brush
Before you hop into that bath, or while you’re waiting for it to fill up, get in a dry brush session to seriously exfoliate your body. Dry brushing has a ton of benefits and is the perfect first step to prepping your body for some serious pamper. This will give your body a light exfoliation and awaken your skin to really soak in the rest of your routine. My favourite dry brush is the Ithyes Dry Brushing Body Brush. This brush isn’t too harsh on the skin, so you’re not at risk for irritation if you have sensitive areas. Just make sure you start at your feet and rub upwards in wide circular motions. After using this, you’ll feel like your skin is awake and ready, so to say.
3) Prep your skin with facial razors (derma-planing)
If you’re an avid reader, then you’ll know I’m a huge fan of shaving the face (or derma-planing as the aestheticians call it). When using a proper facial razor to remove that unwanted peach fuzz, you’re also giving your face a safe and effective exfoliation. The reason why aestheticians do this before any other treatment is because this promotes deeper product absorption. Shaving your face takes off that stubborn layer of dead skin and reveals a blank canvas underneath. Doing this over time can also help with the appearance of acne scars/sun spots. I never skip this step on a pamper day, and neither would they at a spa, if you catch my drift (ahem, your bathroom IS a spa remember).
The razors I swear by are the Schick Silk Touch Up Precision Tool. The blades on these work great without having to dig into your skin like some other ones do.
4) Treat your hair with a mask and scalp massage
Alright, it’s time to give some love and attention to that head of yours. We all know our hair needs TLC to thrive, and yet it’s often the first step that’s skipped in a pamper routine. Treating your hair to a mask once a week is going to do wonders on the overall look and feel of your hair. The mask that has helped transform my hair back to its healthiest form is actually a home mixture. I mix equal parts coconut oil with castor oil and leave it on for as long as possible. When I rinse it out my hair feels like pure silk. If you struggle with growing your hair, castor oil specifically has a ton of benefits for hair growth and re-growth.
The second part of this treatment is the scalp massage. The absolute best scalp massager out there is the Bestool Hair Scalp Massager. I keep this massager in the shower and use it whenever I wash my hair. Just apply the mask, then massage your scalp in small circular motions working around your whole head. Your scalp is going to feel truly awakened and rejuvenated. By massaging your scalp, you’re stimulating your follicles to produce thicker hair. This also helps promote hair growth by dilating your blood vessels beneath the skin. The Amson Naturals Castor Oil and the Nutiva Liquid Coconut Oil are the best consistencies for mixing and are going to be the best for your hair.
5) Apply your favourite face mask
Now it’s time to move onto treating that face of yours. We all have our favourite face masks, so for this step use whichever mask you feel your skin needs at that moment. If you feel your pores need some cleaning out, then opt for a gentle detox mask. Or you can go for an AHA/BHA infused mask to give yourself a light exfoliation. Check out this blog post here to see my most recommended face masks for all skin types.
6) Get cozy with a bath pillow
Alright, now it’s time to sit back in that bath and zen right out. A bath pillow is going to elevate your bath and comfort to a whole new level. This Bathtub and Spa Pillow is the perfect size and suctions perfectly to the walls of your tub. This pillow is also machine washable, so you can keep it clean and in good shape for as long as you have it.
Just lay your head back, throw on a spa playlist, and let your mind and body drift away to a place of pure serenity.
7) Cool down and cleanse with a glass of lemon or cucumber water
It’s not an at-home spa night without a glass of lemon or cucumber water. This is where a bath tray comes in to prove its keep. Keep on your tray a cold glass of infused water to sip on and cool you down as you soak. Feeling overwhelmingly hot is the worst, so having a glass of water by your side is going to help keep your temperature balanced while also cleansing your body in the process.
8) Rinse off in the shower with a body scrub
Now that you’ve let your body relax and unwind in a warm bath, its time to rinse off in the shower. Using a light scrub to give your body that last little bit of exfoliation is going to leave you feeling like a whole new person. The key here is to avoid using anything too harsh, since your skin is already super soft from the soak.
The Shea Moisture Lavender and Orchid Body Scrub is the perfect light exfoliation and moisturizing combo. It also smells like a true spa, which is what we’re going for. Another great option and my personal favourite is the Tree Hut Shea Sugar Brown Sugar Scrub. This scrub is all organic and smells like an absolute dream. This scrub gives your skin such a deep nourishment and is formulated without using parabens. Trust me, there’s a reason the reviews are as good as they are for this product.
9) Steam and cleanse with a facial steamer
Were you thinking you gave your face all the care it needed? Nope, think again! No at-home spa night is complete without the use of this next product. Giving your face a steam cleanse after hopping out of the shower is going to open up your pores even more. This means all the skincare products you put on after this get to truly sink into your skin, much deeper than they would without a steam. Sitting in front of a facial steamer is probably my favourite part of this pamper routine. Just knowing that I’m giving my skin the deep cleanse it needs to thrive feels good, you know? Steaming once a week is going to help reduce the size of your pores and prevent any congestion in the future.
The Microderm SPA+ Facial Steamer is the best at-home steamer on the market. All you do is fill up the water reservoir, plug it in, and you’re ready to steam. This steamer has small suctions on the bottom to ensure it doesn’t slip around as you use it. This also has an adjustable nozzle so you can manipulate the direction of the steam, depending on how you’re set up. The reason why I love this steamer so much is because it looks luxurious. So it’s not going to stick out like a sore thumb if left on your bathroom counter or vanity.
One thing I’ll add is that the first time you use this steamer you’ll notice a faint scent of plastic, due to the nozzle. I recommend giving the steamer a full run through before you use it, just to clean out that nozzle and lessen that scent.
10) Exfoliate with your favourite face serum
It’s not a full pamper routine without some sort of serum, right? Using an exfoliating serum is going to work best right now because you just cleansed and steamed your skin, giving you the perfect base to get in deep with an exfoliation. If you’d like to know my favourite serum that’s perfect for sensitive skin, check out this blog post here.
11) Nourish your skin with a sheet mask
After applying your moisturizer, dive deep into a sheet mask to give your skin even more nutrients and nourishment. Sheet masks have so many benefits. And because you just gave your face a deep steam your skin is going to soak up all of those nutrients even more.
12) De-puff and massage with a jade roller
As you relax and let the sheet mask work it’s magic, massage your face with a jade roller. This will stimulate circulation and relax your facial muscles. Jade rollers also encourage lymphatic drainage which helps detox and lift. Doing this overtop a sheet mask will also manipulate the product to sink deeper into the skin, giving you a better treatment. The Beauty By Earth Jade Roller is my favourite and a great quality roller for an inexpensive price. This product will truly elevate your at-home spa night.
13) Treat your lips with an overnight mask
Time to treat your lips to an overnight mask and make sure they’re as well taken care of as the rest of your body. The absolute best lip mask on the planet is the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I have gone through probably 3 of these tubs in my lifetime. Which is saying a lot because there is a ton of product in here. There’s a few different flavours of this lip mask, this one is the original and is one you really can’t go wrong with.
14) Lather your skin with body lotion
It’s time to complete your spa-edition pamper routine by lathering yourself in body lotion. There is no better feeling in the world than crawling into clean sheets at the end of the day with a fully moisturized body. Not only is your body going to be fully moisturized, but you are going to feel more relaxed and rejuvenated than ever. You’ll be completely ready to take on a night of deep sleep. If you would like to switch up your body lotion, try out the Love Beauty and Planet Body Lotion in either Coconut Water and Mimosa Flower or Shea Butter and Sandalwood. These 2 lotions are the perfect products for an at-home spa night. These both smell like an absolute dream and give you such deep moisture. Plus, they’re completely clean and vegan which is a great benefit.
And that’s the end of the routine! Those are all the products you need to create an at-home spa night. If you try out any of these products, let me know if they work for you and what you think. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy your night of total relaxation!
