The most wonderful time of the year is when the leaves begin to change colours and the air starts to cool. This is when the layers get to come back out in full swing. I feel like light layers are the epitome of casual street style. Fall is all about looking casually chic while being cozy. As much as I love warm summer days, there’s not much I look forward to more than exactly that. Knowing how to style these oversized fall neutrals is key to conquering that casual street style!
In this blog post, I’m going to share with you how I styled this oversized look and where you can find the exact pieces (as well as some jacket and jean dupes)!
Before we get started, I’d like to preface by saying I know these items are fairly expensive. I’ve recently made the decision to invest more in my clothing. Meaning I want to make a point of purchasing items I know I can get more wear out of and that can last me years to come. With certain items, that long-lasting quality comes with spending more. For so many years I’ve purchased less expensive items that ended up only lasting me for that season. Or often times only a couple of wears and washes.
Investing more in your clothing items is also better for our environment. When you buy items that will last you for years, less of your wardrobe is going to go to waste. This is another huge reason as to why I’m choosing to spend more for better quality on my clothing. Shopping smarter doesn’t always mean cheaper. Which is a privilege in itself but definitely something I’m trying to keep in mind.
What I’m Wearing: Shirt Jacket
Aritzia Graydon Shirt Jacket: This piece is the perfect oversized fall neutral clothing item. This is my absolute favourite clothing purchase as of recently. This jacket is the perfect amount of oversized and gives you just enough room without being overpowered by material. You can style this piece with almost anything in your wardrobe, so it’s a staple in itself.
This piece is a soft suede material so it moves with the contours of your body. The key for these oversized pieces is finding something that doesn’t entirely box you out but instead moves with you.
For reference, I’m wearing a size small.
What I’m Wearing: Jeans
Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle: These jeans are also a favourite recent purchase of mine. These jeans are fitted on the hips and stop right at the ankle, which is flattering on literally everyone. Knowing how to style oversized fall neutrals is easy with jeans as versatile as this pair!
These have a button closure which is also a major plus, in my opinion. Button closures can prevent pulling when jeans are fitted at the hips. The less pulling you get, the longer your jeans will last and stay in good shape.
For reference, I’m wearing a size 27. I’m 5″1 and had to get these hemmed to fit to my ankle.
When you purchase from Levi’s, they offer tailoring in store. So on top of getting these hemmed I also got the waist taken in a bit. That way they fit perfect to my body and I wouldn’t have to wear a belt each time.
What I’m Wearing: Black Tank
Aritzia Meridian Tank Top: Made of a stretchy ribbed material, this top fits directly to your body. This top also stops right at the hips so it can either be tucked in or left out without showing skin.
For reference, I’m wearing a size medium.

I’ve paired this outfit with my favourite pair of Vans Sneakers. These are the Vans Old Skool style. These sneakers are my absolute favourite and most worn pair of sneakers I own. This style of shoe just goes with so much and can dress down almost any outfit you have in your wardrobe. I can wear these shoes with most anything in my closet and it can completely change the overall feel of the outfit. If I’m going for casual, I’ll put on these sneakers with a pair of jeans and head out the door.
I’m not a huge accessory person so I’ve kept it simple with this outfit. Personally I have a few pieces I wear all the time and typically stick to one or two pieces of jewellery. However, if you’re huge on accessories you can definitely spice this look up with some gold accents! I just put on a pair of simple gold hoops but feel free to add as much or as little as you’d like! I wanted to keep this outfit very casual and almost.. boyish? So I opted out of wearing too many accessories and went for a much more toned down version.

Also! If you noticed the huge mark on my hand then you win! Just kidding.. you don’t win anything and neither do I. I burned myself pretty bad on my oven rack and now have this huge mark as you can see. I really thought about editing it out in this pictures and then realized that defeats the entire premise and purpose of this blog. So I stopped myself and figured most people wouldn’t even realize.
