Have you ever taken a vacation to a winter destination? If you have, then you know exactly how underrated they are. If you haven’t, then you need to keep reading. In this blog post, I’m going to share with you 3 reasons to take a Winter getaway.
Alright, so everyone loves a beach vacation, myself included. Theres almost nothing better than soaking up the sun on holiday. Getting to cool off in ocean water and enjoying lunch on some outdoor patio. Like most of you, these are the types of vacations that I dream about. Especially during cold winter months like these. That being said, I recently took advantage of the cold and went on a winter vacation. This time in the snow made me rethink my perspective of my ideal holiday. Let’s get into it!
3 Reasons To Take a Winter Getaway:
Winter Destinations Are Insanely Picturesque
If you want the view of a lifetime, go to the mountains during the winter months. The snow covered peaks make for the most breathtaking backdrop you’ll ever see. In my opinion, snowy mountains have got to be epitome of a picturesque backdrop. Just picture sitting in your hotel room and looking out your window. All you see is snow covered mountains. Everything is so quiet and peaceful in the mountains, it’s almost like time stops. I mean c’mon.. what can you think of that could possibly sound more breathtaking? So, at the very least do it for the view alone.
I’m lucky enough to live a few hours away from the Rocky Mountains, so its just a drive away and could be a quick weekend getaway. We stayed at the Chateau Fairmont Lake Louise and let me tell you, this place was an absolute dream. It’s basically a castle tucked into the mountains, seemingly surrounded by only mountains and pine trees. So you feel completely secluded in paradise.
They’re Perfect For Outdoor Activities Or Staying Cozy Indoors
If you’ve gone to the Rocky’s before, you know that they’re typically filled with tourists from all around the globe. People travel from all over to marvel in the beauty that is the mountains, so I guess it’s safe to say winter destinations aren’t totally underrated. Anyways, the majority of these visitors spend their days skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking (yes, in the snow). Taking part in at least some of these winter activities is a must, however staying indoors (especially in a place like the Fairmont) is also an option for those who just love to stay warm and cozy.
It’s my goal for next winter to re-learn how to snowboard. So that when we go back to Lake Louise, we can spend a day or so at the ski-resort. However, this visit we weren’t prepared to spend time on the hill. So instead, we spent some time outdoors hiking and taking in the view before retreating to the warmth of the hotel for the majority of the stay. The Chateau Fairmont Lake Louise is literally a resort, so theres a ton to do within the walls of the hotel. Theres a spa, pools, shops and restaurants. For the guests, there is also a lounge that offers free hot chocolate and apple cider with a bunch of board games you can enjoy with the incredible view. My fiancé and I spent a ton of time here, which is actually what got us into our Scrabble addiction.
We went during Christmas, so the hotel was completely covered in Christmas decor, only adding to the fact that this place is a dreamy castle straight out of a fairy tale.
It’s a Perfect Vacation To Take As A Couple
I don’t need to tell you that everything I just talked about is romantic as hell, that most definitely goes without saying. Imagine being cozy, and warm and being surrounded by silencing beauty with the person you love. I know I just said it goes without saying, but I’m gonna say it anyways.. that’s romantic as hell.
Not that this wouldn’t be a great family stay, because it definitely would be and is for a ton of people. I’m just saying, if you’re looking for a low-key, yet adventurous destination to take your person, this one is it. Take the plunge, believe me, you will not regret it.
And there you have it! Those were my 3 reasons to take a winter getaway! If you’ve never taken a trip to the mountains during the winter, then I hope this blog has convinced you. Believe me when I say, it gives you a newfound appreciation for those winter months. Even if you live in Canada, or somewhere else that’s cold 5 months out of the year.
